Those who are eligible for their flu and COVID-19 vaccines this winter will be contacted from the middle of August.

In Scotland, all children and young people in primary and secondary school are offered the nasal (nose) spray flu vaccine.

The Healthier Economies Team at Public Health Scotland are pleased to announce the launch of the ‘NHS Scotland Anchor Institutions – Graphics and Messaging Toolkit’.

Students are at increased risk of infectious diseases like meningitis, septicaemia, and measles. These diseases spread easily in universities and colleges, as students mix closely with others from around the country and overseas. The new term for Scottish universities and colleges is an important opportunity to remind students of free vaccinations provided by NHSScotland.

Across Europe, over 50,000 measles cases were reported between January and March 2024.

Measles is a highly infectious virus, it can spread easily in prison-settings due to the close nature of the environment.  An infectious person could result in many more cases. Measles can lead to serious and potentially life-threatening complications so it’s important to check you are protected against it.

Following advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), from August 2024 NHSScotland is rolling out an RSV vaccination to protect newborns, infants and older adults. 

Cervical screening awareness week (17–23 June 2024) is an opportunity to raise awareness of cervical screening (smear tests).

With summer just around the corner, it’s important that those who plan on travelling understand what vaccinations they may require before visiting certain countries.

Cases of pertussis (whooping cough) are increasing across the UK and other parts of Europe. Public Health Scotland (PHS) is continuing to support health boards in Scotland to manage this situation. The latest case numbers are published every week.
