Vaccines for Students
Infectious diseases such as meningitis, septicaemia and measles can spread easily in university and college communities. Cases of measles are rising in other parts of the UK and students are the second biggest at-risk group of contracting meningitis, after babies and toddlers. That's why it’s important to remind students about free vaccinations provided by NHS Scotland before they start their second semester. These vaccines offer the best protection against these serious, and in some cases life threatening diseases.
To help raise awareness, Public Health Scotland has developed a social media toolkit with approved assets and captions for colleges and universities, health boards and other stakeholders to share on your social media channels.
The toolkit also includes suggested copy for email and text messages, for colleges and universities to communicate directly with students. We encourage you to use these at the earliest opportunity, as ideally students should ensure they’re up-to-date with their vaccines before they arrive back at university or college.
All the resources, sized for different channels, are available to download here.
Please could you regularly feed these social media assets into your planned activity using the hashtag #Vaccines4Students.
MenACWY, the vaccine that protects against meningitis, protects against most but not all strains of the disease. Asset 3 focuses on being aware of the symptoms of meningitis, however www.meningitis.org has a range of resources that you may also find useful.
