Staying safe outdoors - farm visits and tick awareness

Zoonotic infections are diseases passed from animals to humans. They remain a significant public health risk in Scotland, particularly during spring and summer months.

Public Health Scotland has created resources on two priority zoonoses topics:

  • staying safe during lambing and petting farm visits
  • tick awareness in outdoor areas

Parents with young children, schools and outdoor activity groups are key audiences, as well as pregnant women who may be at higher risk of severe outcomes.

We appreciate your support in regularly incorporating these assets into your planned activity throughout the seasonal periods - spring for lambing and petting farm visits, and spring to late autumn for ticks - helping to prevent illness and ensure consistent messaging across Scotland

Materials are available to download via the Public Health Scotland marketing resource centre.

Note: this toolkit is under embargo until Friday 13 March 2026. Please do not post these assets before this date.
