Asset 5 - Pregnancy campaign - Pregnant woman

Quit Your Way – Stopping Smoking During Pregnancy - Social Media Toolkit

When a woman smokes during pregnancy, or when she is exposed to second-hand smoke, oxygen to the baby is restricted making the baby’s heart beat faster and exposing the baby to harmful toxins. As a result, smoking or exposure to second-hand smoke during pregnancy is responsible for an increased rate of stillbirth, miscarriage and birth defects. This exacerbates existing health inequalities as women from more deprived backgrounds are more likely to smoke during pregnancy and to be exposed to second-hand smoke during pregnancy.

In response to this, Public Health Scotland, is working with a range of other Scottish Health Boards and organisations to create a universal campaign which targets pregnant women and their partners/families to make them aware of the support available to quit smoking from Quit Your Way but also to encourage them to make contact either via their midwife or the service direct for support to quit.

All the resources are available within the toolkithere.
