The Meningococcal B (MenB) vaccine for protection against gonorrhoea
The MenB vaccine is being offered to those at increased risk of gonorrhoea.
Diagnoses of gonorrhoea are high in Scotland and the rest of the world. An opportunistic vaccination programme for use of the MenB vaccine to prevent or reduce the severity of gonorrhoea is being rolled out from 4 August 2025.
The vaccine will be offered to those at highest risk of infection.
This includes:
- Gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) if they attend a sexual health clinic in Scotland and are assessed as being at increased risk of coming into contact with gonorrhoea
- Those involved in selling or exchanging sex without using condoms
- Those who sexual health clinics assess as being at high risk of infection.
To help raise awareness of this new vaccine offer and encourage those eligible to get vaccinated, Public Health Scotland (PHS) has created the following assets for your use and dissemination:
- A social media toolkit, which includes assets and suggested caption copy
- Digital assets which can be displayed on screens in public areas of sexual health clinics
PHS has also developed:
- An information sheet for staff to support delivery of the vaccine
- Lines to take to help staff respond to enquiries about the vaccine.
All resources can be downloaded on the PHS Marketing Resource Centre.
