Frontline social care workers are encouraged to take up their winter vaccines this year
As part of this year’s winter vaccination programme, frontline social care workers and staff in care homes for older adults are being offered the free flu and COVID-19 vaccines to build up immunity and protect themselves from these viruses.
Flu and COVID-19 spread more easily in winter when we spend more time together indoors and can cause serious illness. Frontline social care workers could be more likely to be exposed to these viruses.
Evidence shows that the flu vaccine protects those who get it. It also reduces the spread of the flu virus between people, helping to protect those most vulnerable such as elderly adults and people with health conditions. If you are vaccinated and catch flu or COVID-19, your symptoms are likely to be milder and recover faster, reducing your risk of seriousness illness or hospital treatment.
You can book an appointment online, for a vaccination clinic near your home or closer to where you work, or somewhere you visit regularly.
