Breast Screening Social Media Toolkit

Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) is an opportunity to raise awareness of breast screening.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Scottish women with one in nine developing the disease. Women are five times more likely to survive if it's caught in it's earliest stage.

In Scotland, the NHS offers routine breast screening to women aged 50 to 70. Those who are eligible are invited every three years, and the process typically takes around 10 minutes. Breast screening doesn’t prevent cancer, however it helps to detect cancers at an early stage when they are too small to see or feel.

Public Health Scotland (PHS) has created a social media toolkit to promote breast screening. All resources can be downloaded on the PHS Marketing Resource Centre

Please regularly feed these into your planned activity, using the hashtag #BreastScreeningScot (using the hashtag is important as it allows us to monitor usage, which informs future campaigns).

Please feel free to share these resources with any relevant channels or networks.

Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, you can also follow and share content from @BreastCancerNow and @BreastCancerUK. There is also more information including case studies available at getcheckedearly.org.

Coming soon

We also wanted to let you know about a ‘what to expect at your breast screening appointment’ video which is in development. This video will be added to NHS inform and will be made available to download for local use in waiting room areas or other appropriate settings.

Your support is much appreciated.
